The Artwork This is a specially created, limited edition sericel depicting the classic Walt Disney characters Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto. This sericel edition, "Millennium Milestones," features the characters posing as some of history's most influential and important pioneers. The Walt Disney Studios has created this character image using the fine art screen-printing process of color reproduction known as serigraphy. Disney artists specially created a hand-inked, hand-painted animation cel master which was used as a reference in the production of these sericels. A total of 29 colors were then used to recreate the color image, each of which has been exactingly screen-printed, one color at a time, onto the acetate cel. Each mat in the edition bears a remarque of the special Disney millennium logo screen-printed in gold. The Milestones Mickey was always first in flight. He made his debut as a pilot in the animated short Plane Crazy (1928), and now he conquers the stars as an astronaut. Minnie as Queen Elizabeth, played Disney's first princess in Ye Olden Days (1933) and later in Brave Little Tailor (1938). Donald's irascible nature first surfaced in Orphan's Benefit (1934). He depicts Sir Isaac Newton after a lesson in gravity. Daisy has always been a woman ahead of her time; here she makes an appearance to honor Madame Currie's scientific discoveries. Goofy, depicted as Richard the Lionhearted played a knight first in A Knight for A Day (1946). Pluto made his screen debut in The Chain Gang (1930), and he emerged as Mickey's loyal pal in The Moose Hunt (1931). His adventurous spirit shines through here as Christopher Columbus.
