The Story
Having vanquished villainous construction foreman Peg Leg Pete, Mickey and Minnie team up to sell box lunches, and ride off into yet another happy ending.

The Artwork
This hand-inked, hand-painted Limited Edition Scene Collection portrays this unforgettable moment from Walt Disney's animated cartoon classis short Building a Building (1933). From their film debut in Steamboat Willie (1928), those eternal sweethearts Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse have to date co-starred in 62 animated shorts. One of their most charming cartoons, Building a Building stars steam shovel operator Mickey and box lunch wagon proprietor Minnie ('Baloney, macaroni, and a huckleberry pie'). The Depression-era cartoon shorts used the construction of skyscrapers as a backdrop while focusing on Mickey and Minnie as workers tried to earn a living despite any obstacles, a delightful reminder of how these lovable personalities cheered a nation. In this cartoon, Minnie shows the feisty side of her personality as it is she, not Mickey, who defeats big bully Pete, and she gives Mickey a new Job and Partner in her box lunch business. Minnie adds Mickey's name to her cart with the juice of the huckleberry pie. Of course, this adorable coupleco seals the deal with a kiss. Nominated for an Academy Award as Best Short Subject/Cartoon of 1933, Building a Building is a milestone in the sweetest and longest-running romance ever seen on the silver screen.

Produced at the Walt Disney Studios Ink and Paint Department, each cel features 2 ink colors, 10 to 12 paint colors and 1 special effect color and harkening back to vintage black and white shades of the original cartoon short and is paired with a fine-art giclee background. As was done during the original production process over seven decades ago, the cels are meticulously hand-inked from the actual, hand-drawn animation drawings, on loan from the Disney Animation Research Library, where all original production art is archived. This cel set-up is part of the Limited Edition Scene Collections for which Disney artists have taken 15 of the one-of-a-kind production drawings and created each on cel only 7 times. This 're-animation' of Scene 74 recreates the sense of movement of the original and captures the timeless romance between Mickey and Minnie in Building a Building.
