Bob Clampett - Daffy Duck and Porky Pig - Woo Woo

The Daffy Giclee print is a reproduction from a vintage drawing borrowed from the Bob Clampett archives. Drawn by Clampett, it appeared in the 1937 classic, “Porky’s Duck Hunt,” which was Daffy’s first cartoon and initial pairing with Porky Pig.

With Warner Bros. attempt to supplant the popularity of Disney’s Donald Duck, Warner Bros. Director, Tex Avery enlisted Clampett to create several ducks with varying personalities. However, it was Clampett’s idea to roll these personalities into one duck, thus creating Daffy.

An instant success, Daffy’s personality was far from anything seen in animation. He was rude, irreverent, enjoyed taking advantage of individuals, and was overall the antithesis of many other characters in the Looney Tunes stable.

Of both Bugs and Daffy, Chuck Jones has said, “Bugs is who we want to be. Daffy is who we are.”

“Porky’s Duck Hunt” is also one of first animation efforts to showcase the new, more slimmed down Porky Pig, who was criticized in earlier shorts as too obese and mean spirited, such as in the cartoon “I Haven’t Got A Hat.”

The edition of 137 signifies 1937, the year “Porky’s Duck Hunt” was released.
