Peter Ellenshaw - Homeward Bound

"Built in 1756, this lighthouse in Boston Harbor was the earliest one built in the New World and the first erected in the United States. Originally, candles and whale oil provided the illumination that guided sailors into the safety of this harbor, signaling their journey's end. Severely damaged by the British during the American Revolution, this lighthouse was virtually rebuilt from the ground up in 1783. The restoration included a fourteen-foot addition, raising the tower 89 feet above the ground."

"What a welcoming sight it must have provided for those brave souls who ventured forth to sail the seas. Its guiding beacon promised safety to all who withstood the winds, waves, storms and long periods of time at sea with no land in sight, only endless miles of ocean stretching to the horizon and beyond. Because of this, lighthouses remain an enduring symbol of hope in troubled times and a reminder that, above all, we must never lose faith." - Peter Ellenshaw
