Although Harry’s life at the Dursley’s is quite bleak, in this scene we witness a rare happy moment for Harry as he opens his birthday cards (delivered by owl express) from his friends at Hogwarts. In the background we see his countdown calendar as he daydreams about returning to Hogwarts, the only true home he has ever known.
