Walt Disney Art Classics - Disney Decades - The 1930s
The Artwork This is the first of a series of limited-edition sericels that commemorate the twentieth century by celebrating each decade with the milestones that made it famous. It depicts the great stars, personalitites, and people behind Disney's legendary animated films, as well as some unforgettable photographs of that decade. This sericel edition, "Disney Decades - the 1930s," showcases Disney in the 1930s through depictions of classic characters such as Michey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck and character scenes from Flowers and Trees (1932), Three Little Pigs (1933), and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).
The background level then features a photocollage of vintage 1930s images, including Walt Disney and his partner/brother Roy O. Disney, the Disney animation staff, and the Hyperion Avenue location of The Walt Disney Studio. Non-Disney imagery also defines the times and includes - vintage trains, Depression-era farmers, construction workers building a high-rise, and dancing girls making a human rose for a floor show.
The Walt Disney Studios has created this character image using the fine art screen-printing process of color reproduction known as serigraphy. Disney artists specially created a hand-inked, hand-painted animation cel master which was used as a reference in the production of these sericels. A total of 29 colors were then used to recreate the color image, each of which has been exactingly screen-printed, one color at a time, onto the acetate cel.
