The Chronicles of Narnia

The Story
While playing hide-and-seek in the home of a mysterious professor, four English youngsters find a secret passage in a wardrobe that leads to an enchanted land called Narnia where it is “always winter and never Christmas.” The only way Narnia can be restored to its original beauty and peacefulness is through the return of the powerful and mystical lion named Aslan - a leader so noble and mighty that the children feel hope at the very mention of his name.

The Artwork
Originally published in 1950, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the first book (the second chronologically) is the seven-part Narnia series. This limited-edition giclee print features Aslan the mighty lion at the center of The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. When famed scholar and authur C.S. Lewis started writing his stories of the magical land of Narnia, he chose the lion - a symbol of strength and courage as well as royalty - as the mysterious ruler whose love and spirit of sacrafice is the only hope for the once-peaceful land currently frozen in perpetual winter.

Lewis named the lion Aslan, which means “lion” in Turkish and came from the Tales from the Arabian Nights, a book Lewis read as a child. A huge and awe-inspiring lion who can also be gentle and playful, Aslan is the only character who appears in all seven of the Narnia books. Now Aslan comes to life for Walt Disney Pictures’ motion picture epic. Digitally created by computer artists, Aslan is based on the real life “king of the beasts” but with humanized eyes to emphasize the character’s compassion and wisdom.

When the British children who find themselves in Narnia first see Aslan, they are almost overwhelmed by this golden power. But when he speaks their names, they know they have met their greatest friend. And in the end, nothing - not even the dark payments that the evil White Witch demands on him - can hold or contain Aslan’s power. “The Chronicles of Narnia were an important part of my childhood just as they are to millions of fans around the world.” Explains the new film’s director Andrew Adamson (co-director of Shrek and Shrek II). “I hope to bring to the screen a movie that is as real to the audience as Narnia was to me as a child. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe tells an epic story of great heart, of a family torn apart by a war in our world, who are united in their struggle to save the magical land of Narnia. It’s been a long time dream of mine to bring these classic stories to a new generation of moviegoers and readers.”

This image was created using the fine art printing process of color reproduction known as giclee. In this process an enhanced computer-based digital file is printed by spraying millions of pixel-sized drops per second onto premium-quality, acid free paper with a printer specially modified for fine art reproduction.

In addition, a map of the legendary land of Narnia serves as a border treatment and the film’s logo is included as a design element. The result is a magnificent portrait that truly makes you believe Aslan is on the move.
