The Story Mickey and Tinker Bell watch as Walt Disney introduces another Sunday evening's entertainment in this nostalgic scene.
The Artwork Inspired by America's Sunday night ritual of families gathering in front of the TV to watch The Wonderful World of Disney, this limited-edition sericel depicts Mickey, Tinker Bell and Walt Disney in an imaginative living-room setting. The Walt Disney Studios has created this character image using the fine art screen-printing process of color reproduction known as serigraphy. Working from original character drawings and using an original background painting by Paul Wenzel, Disney artists specially created a hand-inked, hand-painted animation cel master which was used as a reference in the production of these sericels. A total of 18 colors were then used to recreate the color image, each of which has been exactingly screen-printed, one color at a time, onto the acetate cel.
For over 40 years, Paul Wenzel has been called upon to create portraits of Walt Disney. His paintings of Walt have appeared on official Disney publicity materials as well as the company's annual reports. However, his most widely seen portrait of Walt appeared on an official U.S. postage stamp, issued on September 11, 1968, to commemorate the life of the animation pioneer and an American original.
The year 2001 marks the 100th birthday of Walt Disney, a milestone that will be observed throughout the company.
