Mickey winds up covered in cake when his surprise birthday party goes haywire.
This limited edition sericel, "Happy Birthday," recreates Scene 46 of Walt Disney's classic 1942 Mickey Mouse short Mickey's Birthday Party. The Walt Disney Studios has created this character image using the fine art screen-printing process of color reproduction known as serigraphy. Disney artists, working from original animation drawings and film reference materials used for the production of Mickey's Birthday Party, specially created a hand-inked, hand-painted animation cel master which was used in the production of these sericels. A total of 20 colors are used to recreate the color image, each of which has been exactingly screen-printed, one color at a time, onto the acetate cel.
During Mickey's Golden Age, he played everything from a fireman to a cowboy to a detective to a plumber. Technically and artistically, Mickey Mouse cartoons were far superior to other contemporary cartoons and gave life to an entire family of animated characters. Their artistic success was honored with an Academy Award to Walt Disney in 1932 for having created Mickey. Alongside Mickey from his very first film was his lady love, Minnie Mouse. Although they have never married, their more than six-decade romance is certainly one of the longest in Hollywood history.
