In his delicate renderings of women, Steve Hanks confronts us with a mystery. And we ask ourselves, "What is she thinking, what is she feeling." This beautiful image may offer subtle clues. Our subject awakes in a shadowed room with huge windows and massive bed, an almost masculine setting. As warm light floods in she looks up with closed eyes and asserts "Yes, I know who I am and where I am going. Just give me a few minutes to gather my strength."
