"In many of my paintings of women, they're singular people in moments of what I call introspective solitude," comments Steve Hanks. "What are they thinking, what are they feeling, in some strange way I become the subjects I'm painting and ask those questions of myself. And the paintings in turn pose the same questions to me. Hopefully, these feelings go out to the viewer as well."
