The Chateau Suite

Given that much of medieval France was an almost constant battlefield, the earliest chateaux were built as fortresses. However, a period of relative stability in the mid-1500's saw castles emerge as royal palaces. Originally created as a citadel in the 11th century, Esclimont was passed down through royal lineage and with each passing, took new and separate form as its function altered. Esclimont is surrounded by gardens of exquisite beauty, its grounds manicured, its facade a mixture of midieval, gothic and classical architecture. This chateau seems nearly fairytale-like in its presence, an almost enchanted village of extraordinary charm and beauty.
