A timeless setting sets the stage for this intriguing look at a species that has roamed the earth since ancient times.

"The background for this painting was done plein air (painted on location), near Haines, Alaska. Produced some ten years ago, it remained in my studio ever since. One day, I was looking through my fieldwork and thought, 'Wow. This could be the setting for a painting of wolves.' I had seen the wolves on a separate occasion, and thought they would fit this scene. I changed the lighting to a sunset and darkened the mid ground. To add further interest, I made the beach wet to reflect the light in the sky." - John Seerey-Lester
