"One of the most powerful of the big cats, the jaguar stalks its prey in the rain-forest of South and Central America. Although it can climb trees and is a strong swimmer, it mainly hunts its prey at ground level or at the water’s edge. An extremely difficult cat to see in the wild, the black or melanistic phase is even more obscure as it hunts in the dark depts of the forest. In my painting, it is the ‘final moment’ as the big cat bounds out of the darkness to take down its prey. Hopefully, it is not you, the viewer." - John Seerey-Lester
