These striking images capture two intimate moments in the life of the Bilashaka pride of marsh lions. The artist shadowed these magnificent animals for nearly two months in Africa's Maasai Mara region. During this time he was privileged to observe two sets of young cubs. One afternoon a lioness allowed the artist to get extremely close and sketch from his open-sided vehicle. "She was always very watchful," he reports, "but not threatening. I attempted to portray this feeling of cautious trust as she rests in the cool shade while her cubs romp in the sunlight."

In "Time To Go" a cub has ventured too far from the fold, and is retrieved with firm but loving discipline. This cub actually came up to the artist's vehicle and licked the tire.
