The northwoods lake country is the theme for many of Darrell Bush's beautifully conceived paintings. This wilderness region has long inspired the artist with its quiet grandeur, pristine waters, virgin forests, craggy cliffs and abundant wildlife. He often returns to this secluded area, gathering anew first hand impressions of its transcendent beauty.
"I invite you to paddle back with me to a time and place that has no boundaries and explore one of my favorite campsites from three different vantage points," the artist comments. "On our first visit, in 'Summer's Song', we observe many intimate details of this romantic campsite. The evening air is turning chilly, so step close to the warm and glowing fire. Smell the pungent wood smoke. Taste the freshly brewed coffee. Paddle out into the placid waters in the old cedar-sided canoe. Admire the reflected sunset on the lake's mirrored surface. And then listen for the haunting call of the loons as they take their twilight cruise."
Darrell Bush's visual remembrances of this wilderness campsite beautifully responds to his invitation. The campers, we note, have momentarily removed themselves from our view. We are left alone with all the wonders and mystery of nature, to experience the quiet nostalgic tug of this remote retreat.
