Created by DC Comics artist Alex Ross, Mythology - Green Lantern is the companion piece to Mythology - Batman, Mythology - Superman, and Mythology - Wonder Woman.
The Green Lantern used in Mythology - Green Lantern is based on the character, Hal Jordan, developed during the Silver Age of Comics in 1959.
As Ross did with his other Mythology pieces, the Green Lantern is rendered very close and dramatically, bringing him directly to the viewer.
Alex’s definitive portrayal of the Green Lantern captures the glowing power ring, which was given to Hal Jordan along with the lantern by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When this alien’s spaceship crashed on Earth, he used his ring to find someone to take his place as Green Lantern. The Green Lantern oath that became most famous during the Hal Jordan era is -
In brightest day, in blackest night No evil shall escape my sight Let those who worship evil’s might Beware my power, Green Lantern’s light. |
